Born from the passion of Yvon Chouinard for climbing (started in 1953), Patagonia brings to the outdoor world the same obsession with functionality, durability and innovation that had made Chouinard's climbing equipment iconic.
Founded in 1973, it is today a global reference for silent sports — climbing, surfing, skiing/snowboarding, fly fishing and trail running — with technical clothing and equipment designed to stay out for a long time, not to "make a presence".
Sustainability, here, is not a claim: since 1985 Patagonia has allocated 1% of sales to protecting the environment (its “Earth Tax”). And it pushes a very concrete anti-waste logic: Common Threads (since 2005) and a culture of "repair and reuse", up to the explicit invitation to buy only what you need with the "Don't Buy This Jacket" campaign.
In 2018 it formalized its purpose in “We're in business to save our home planet” and, since 2022, ownership has been transferred to the Patagonia Purpose Trust and the nonprofit Holdfast Collective, so that profits not reinvested go to protect the planet.
In addition to clothing, Patagonia offers backpacks and travel gear and a complete surf line, including wetsuits dedicated.
Because it costs “more”: materials and construction oriented towards longevity, supported by a business model that puts quality, responsibility and mission at the center.
