The connection between the discipline of yoga and a conscious climbing

This manual aims to illustrate the existing connections between yoga and climbing, exploring not only the aspects related to the awareness of the body, breath and our mental dynamics, but also contextualizing them within the spiritual path of this millenary discipline. The goal is not only to show how yogic techniques can be aimed at climbing both physically and mentally, but also to demonstrate how climbing, lived with an adequate approach, can become a form of yoga itself .

After an introduction in which the principles of yoga are presented and its link with climbing is summarized, the book dedicates a part consistent to the description of the most important yogic postures (Asana) and of different sequences designed for climbers, explaining it In depth the climbing utility. Subsequently, several breathing techniques are described (Pranayama) which can be applied in climbing, and then analyzes what the foundations of meditation are and how climbing can become a moving meditation. A chapter dedicated to yogic techniques of relaxation follows and an explanation of how ethical/moral codes (Yama and Niyama) of yoga in reality can find a very current application in the world of climbing. Finally, several insights will find space in a vast appendix.

This guide addresses both those looking for a complementary practice to improve as climbers and those interested in entering the heart of yoga and having a deeper vision of their vertical passion. The second edition presents a significant review and expansion of the previous one, in which those who appreciated the first version will find many other techniques and ideas for reflection.

Alberto Milani, born in 1980, started climbing the age of 13. In the early years of activity, he dedicated himself to sports climbing in cliff and partly to mountaineering and then mainly devoted himself to bouldering since the late 1990s. Next to the Outdoor activity, from 2003 to 2010 he participated in the major Italian Boulder competitions. The great proximity between climbing and yoga, has approached the latter in 2002 and then practiced it continuously since 2007, starting in 2010, starting in 2010 the many years of training to become a teacher at the Jiva Yoga school in Como . In 2014 he concluded this journey, graduating teacher recognized at national (CSEN) and international level (E-RYT®200/ RYT®500/ Yacep®). Since 2019 he is ordinary member Yani (Yoga National Teachers Association) and from 2017 climbed phases climbing instructor, currently at the Manga Climbing gym in Milan. Since 2014 he has taught yoga and yoga for climbing, regularly holding weekly courses and organizing dozens of seminars, workshops and retreat throughout Italy. It is also one of the teachers responsible for the multi -year training course teachers of the Jiva Yoga Academy (www.jivayoga.it).

Cristine Spiezia since his childhood, has grown in a daily context in which yoga, holistic disciplines and spirituality have been part of his life, in the context of yogics. The love for nature and ecosostitability brought it to the aesthetic diploma in 2004 at the CFP of Como and then deepen the eco-bio cosmetics, also collaborating with Inlight Beauty-Cemon. In this area it developed the "Naturopathy for the skin" holistic approach, combining knowledge of the MTC meridians in synergy with techniques of automoting, yoga and skin care. Her interest in psychology brought her to the path and title of "Manager of Community" in 2009. In 2014, Yoga teacher graduated from the Jiva Yoga school, with an international RYT®500 certification. He regularly teaches yoga, in particular for pregnancy and post-childbirth, holds holistic consultancy and collaborates with professionals from different sectors. It is also part of the team of teachers of the teacher training course of the Jiva Yoga Academy. Since 2013 he approached climbing, who practices regularly.
